Gulu University Medical Students Association, GUMSA is a students’ run organization, composed of

medical students and alumni of Gulu University medical school. It was formed in 2005, whose patron

being the dean faculty of medicine, and is fully recognized and guided by the faculty board of the faculty

of medicine and by the entire Gulu University administration. It is a member association of the

federation of Uganda medical students association (FUMSA) which unites medical students in the whole Country

The core objective of the association is to fight for a disease free world and to establish good health

standards through health education in schools and in the public on diseases like  HIV/AIDS, promotion of

personal hygiene, food and water hygiene,  reproductive (maternal and child health) and blood donation

among others.

GUMSA works towards achieving its objectives through organizing community outreaches, radio talk

shows, sporting events majorly in the Northern part of Uganda, Publishing annual medical journal called

Gulu University Medical Journal. The associations’ major strength is availability of manpower provided

by its members during the implementation of the projects while its major challenge is shortage of funds.

GUMSA is presenting a Northern Uganda youth Empowerment Project against HIV/AIDS (NUYEPA)

project proposal focusing on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and STDS among the adolescents and

youths in local communities, tertiary institutions and universities within Northern Uganda starting with

Gulu, Oyam and Lamwo districts in the first year and spreading to other districts in subsequent years.

We therefore humbly request for your guidance, advice and support or if you could link us to an

organization that would partner with us to implement this project for the betterment of youths

living in Northern Uganda as far as combatting HIV/AIDS is concerned.
