NORTHERN UGANDA YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROJECT AGAINST HIV/AIDS
Gulu University Medical Students Association, GUMSA is a students’ run organization, composed of
medical students and alumni of Gulu University medical school. It was formed in 2005, whose patron
being the dean faculty of medicine, and is fully recognized and guided by the faculty board of the faculty
of medicine and by the entire Gulu University administration. It is a member association of the
federation of Uganda medical students association (FUMSA) which unites medical students in the whole Country
The core objective of the association is to fight for a disease free world and to establish good health
standards through health education in schools and in the public on diseases like HIV/AIDS, promotion of
personal hygiene, food and water hygiene, reproductive (maternal and child health) and blood donation
GUMSA works towards achieving its objectives through organizing community outreaches, radio talk
shows, sporting events majorly in the Northern part of Uganda, Publishing annual medical journal called
Gulu University Medical Journal. The associations’ major strength is availability of manpower provided
by its members during the implementation of the projects while its major challenge is shortage of funds.
GUMSA is presenting a Northern Uganda youth Empowerment Project against HIV/AIDS (NUYEPA)
project proposal focusing on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and STDS among the adolescents and
youths in local communities, tertiary institutions and universities within Northern Uganda starting with
Gulu, Oyam and Lamwo districts in the first year and spreading to other districts in subsequent years.
We therefore humbly request for your guidance, advice and support or if you could link us to an
organization that would partner with us to implement this project for the betterment of youths
living in Northern Uganda as far as combatting HIV/AIDS is concerned.
